7/11/02. The COG/CONAANDA Helicopter Study is now funded and the contractor is starting its assessment phase (Click here to read about the study). Public comment will help shape this study by telling CONAANDA what the impact of helicopters is in the Washington Area communities. If your community is affected, you need to let CONAANDA know the path the helicopters are flying, whether they are particularly low, in what direction, and how often. This will be your LAST CHANCE to voice your opinion and to affect this study.

6.27.05. The FAA/TSA/DHS has relaxed the National Airport ban on General Aviation a little, allowing charter aircraft in, provided that they stop at an approved civilian airfield before proceeding to National to pick up a federal marshall. Also, all General Aviation pilots must be approved before asking for permission to land at National Airport. The General Aviation community is not satified with this arrangement and is still applying pressure on members of Congress to have full access to National. Given the lax security at most civilian airfields, this would be risky as is evidenced with the numerous small aircraft planes flying into National's airspace.

We need to keep the pressure on in the other direction as more airplanes equates to in an increase in security as well as more noise. No one wants an aircraft crashing into one's house, even a small one.

Use our Email Center to contact the White House, your members of Congress, and your locally elected officials on this issue.

It's important for everyone concerned about aircraft noise to weigh in on this issue; otherwise they will ignore us completely!!

6/27/05. The Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments' Committee on Noise at National and Dulles Airports (CONANDA) is still looking for help in identifying hot spots of helicopter activity - where they are flying frequently and at low altitudes. CAAN is a member of this group and needs your help to identify these hot spots. If your community is having this problem, send us an email at <nonoise@ caan.org> to give us your comunity name and location. Thanks.
